Meet The CGC Staff
Bob McNamara, Associate Provost and Dean of The Citadel Graduate College, earned an undergraduate degree in justice and law administration from Western Connecticut State University and a master's in sociology and criminal justice from Southern Connecticut State University. He earned two master's degrees as well as a doctorate in sociology from Yale University. He is the author of more than 25 books on topics ranging from policing and crime to homelessness and urban sociology and social gerontology. He joined The Citadel in 2005, and he previously served as the Associate Dean of Evening Undergraduate Studies and as Director of the 2 + 2 program in Criminal Justice for three years.
Marcus Cox, Associate Dean of Evening Undergraduate Studies, earned an undergraduate degree in marketing and a master’s degree in history from Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He also earned a master's degree in business administration from The Citadel School of Business Administration and a doctorate degree in American history from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. In 2007, Cox received a certificate of completion from the Harvard Graduate School of Education Management Development Program. Dr. Cox specializes in African American Civil-Military history and is the author of Segregated Soldiers: Military Training at Historically Black Colleges in the Deep South. He joined The Citadel in 2001 and previously served the College as Founding Director of the African American Studies Program and Assistant Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences.
Zane Segle, Assistant Dean for Student Engagement, earned his associate degree from Brigham Young University and his undergraduate and master’s degree in Spanish literature from the University of Utah. He also earned a doctorate in early modern Spanish literature from the University of Colorado at Boulder. Dr. Segle specializes in Christian and Muslim relations in the literature of sixteenth-century Spain. He published articles dealing with the representation of Moorish culture and society, particularly as it relates to defining Spain’s national identity. Dr. Segle is currently working on the ancient legends of the fall of Spain to the Moors and how it influenced nineteenth-century authors like Washington Irving, Sir Walter Scott, Robert Southey and Edgar Allen Poe. Dr. Segle is also the Primary Investigator of a grant from the Department of Defense to promote Project Global Officers, which is an initiative to support the study of critical languages at The Citadel and abroad.
Michelle Clifton, Assistant Dean for Enrollment Management and Technology of The Citadel Graduate College earned her Bachelor of Arts from Northeastern State University and Master of Adult Education from the University of Arkansas. Ms. Clifton has dedicated her career to helping others identify and achieve their goals. Prior to joining The Citadel she was the Client Engagement Manager for Ellucian working with colleges and universities in North and South America to improve operational efficiency and student success. Previously she served as the Assistant Vice Chancellor of Enrollment Management at the University of Arkansas- Fort Smith.
Donna Parrish, Director of Education Programs and Summer School for The Citadel Graduate College, received her Bachelor of Arts in French from the College of Charleston. She was the Coordinator of Professional Development courses for 13 years and has served in her current position since 2008. She has served on Staff Council multiple terms, a subcommittee of the Computer Services Strategic Planning Committee, and currently serves on the Residency Appeals Committee. For the past 15 years, she has coordinated the Teacher Cadet Program in conjunction with the School of Education. She is a member of the North American Association of Summer Sessions.
Katie Gibson, Director of CGC Operations and Marketing and Recruiting, earned a Master of Arts in Social Science and a Graduate Certificate in Leadership from The Citadel as well as a Master's Certificate in Project Management from George Washington University. She joined The Citadel Graduate College in 2006 with ten years of prior marketing experience. She serves on many campus-wide committees.
Kari Tippens, Assistant Director of The Citadel Graduate College, earned her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Nebraska Lincoln. Her higher education career began in 2009, where she worked with medical students and faculty at the Medical University of South Carolina. She joined The Citadel Graduate College in 2011.
Karen Salem, Admissions and Records Specialist, earned a Master of Arts in Higher Education Administration from the University of Alabama. She spent several years in corporate human resources and then made a career change to college administration. She worked at The University of Alabama, Manderson Graduate School of Business and Wilson College before joining The Citadel Graduate College in 2013.
Joseph Trainor, Admissions and Records Specialist in The Citadel Graduate College earned a Master's degree in Management from the Stevens Institute of Technology in NJ. He has a background in college admissions and school counseling. Joseph worked in higher education as a Recruiter and Academic Advisor before joining The Citadel Graduate College in 2014.
Morgan LaForge, Admissions and Records Specialist, earned her Bachelor of Science in Marketing from Clemson University and is currently completing her M.Ed. in Higher Education Business Administration. Over the past six years she has worked in many areas of student development and was the Admissions Intake Coordinator for Piedmont Technical College prior to joining The Citadel Graduate College in 2014.
Kelsey Rassa, Enrollment Management Coordinator for The Citadel Graduate College, earned her Bachelor of Science from Towson University. She relocated to Charleston to work for the South Carolina Aquarium before beginning her career at The Citadel in 2013.
Sean T. Arledge, Assistant to Dr. McNamara, is a graduate of Clemson University. He began working for The Citadel in the Evening Undergraduate Studies department. Before coming to work for The Citadel, he spent 10 years working in the landscape irrigation industry.
Melissa Millsis a Graduate Assistant for The Citadel Graduate College. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Sports and Exercise Science from the University of Northern Colorado before she relocated to Charleston to begin her Master's Degree in Clinical Counseling at The Citadel. Melissa began working for the CGC office in August 2013.
Blake Coffey is a Graduate Assistant for The Citadel Graduate College. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Nonprofit Administration with a Business Cognate from USC-Upstate. He worked for the South Carolina Office of Rural Health in Columbia, SC before relocating to Charleston to pursue a Master of Business Administration.
