General Requirements

To receive an Honors Gold Seal on his/her Citadel diploma, a student must complete nine Honors Program courses as well as the Honors Personal and Professional Develop series. Most of these courses are designed to be taken in lieu of Core Curriculum requirements, and most will, therefore, be taken in the freshman and sophomore years. The other Honors courses will take the place of General Electives.

If you major in one of the sciences or engineering, you will be required to complete the following Honors courses:

  • 4 semesters of Honors English (HONR 101, 102, 201 and 202)
  • 2 semesters of Honors History (HONR 103 and 104)
  • 2 semesters of Honors Mathematics (HONR 131 and 132)
  • 1 semester of
    • Honors Social Science  (HONR 203) OR
    • Honors Seminar (HONR 300) OR
    • Honors Directed Research Project (HONR 400)
  • 3 semesters or Honors Personal and Professional Development (HONR 211, 311 AND 411)

If you major in one of the humanities, social sciences, business, or education, you will be required to complete the following Honors courses:

  • 4 Honors English classes (HONR 101, 102, 201, and 202)
  • 2 Honors History classes (HONR 103 and 104)
  • 1 Honors Social Science Project (HONR 203)
  • 2 Honors Seminars or Research Projects (or one of each) (HONR 300 and HONR 400)
  • 3 Honors Personal and Professional Development classes (HONR 211, 311 AND 411)
