Calling all Citadel Faculty and Staff!!

The 2014 Fall Tech Fest is highlighting Communication and Collaborations tools that are available to the faculty and staff at The Citadel.

Our knowledgeable ITS staff will be on-hand to answer your questions, and other departments will be showcasing their technologies, as well. A variety of breakout sessions will spotlight some of the neat features of these communications and collaboration tools, and several departments will be sharing their experiences with their SharePoint sites.

No registration is required - just stop by!

Real Eyewitness Accounts!  SharePoint Team Sites Work! (1 hour)

Come see and hear how  Michelle Clifton and Sean Arledge from the Graduate College, Dean Easterlin from Project Management, and Bob Line from Human Resources  are using SharePoint Team Sites to improve communication and collaboration in their departments. They are using this resource to share documents,  information, and communicate much more effectively. Take away useful tips for building a SharePoint Team Site for your department or committee.

OneDrive—What’s in your Cloud? (30 minutes) View Presentation (PDF)

OneDrive is your personal online (cloud) storage that comes with your new Office 365 account. It allows you to store, share, and edit documents from any computer with an internet connection. Collaborating with others is now easier with OneDrive. In this brief overview we will demonstrate how do to the following tasks in OneDrive:

  • Create and upload files
  • Share and stop sharing files
  • Delete files
  • Recover deleted files

Orientation to the Oral Communications Lab (20 minutes)

Gervais Hagerty, Director of the Oral Communications Lab, will give you an overview of the lab, show the capabilities of the recordings, and also show a before-and-after video to highlight improvement in cadets' public speaking skills

In this session, we will cover 6 tips to help you create a PowerPoint presentation that will engage your audience and allow them to fully absorb your message. These tips range from basic, best practices to more advance techniques.

Communicating Through Video: Creating Videos for Training and Learning Enhancement (30 minutes) View Presentation (PDF)

This overview session will cover techniques for making videos for training purposes, tutorials, and lecture capture. We will walk through the video-creation process from beginning to end, using different tips and tricks to keep your audience engaged.

Empower your Department or Committee with SharePoint tools to improve Communication & Collaboration (30 minutes)

SharePoint is a web-based application, created by Microsoft, that interfaces with your Office 365 account. It can be used as a secure place to store, organize, share, and access information from almost any device via a web browser.  In this session we will discuss how a SharePoint site can be used to empower communication and collaboration in your department and/or committee.  We will:

  • Define SharePoint
  • Define Lists and Libraries
  • Discuss the appropriate use of a SharePoint Site library versus the use of OneDrive
  • Navigate a sample department/committee site (Demo site)
  • Follow and find a site
  • Demonstrate how to add a SharePoint App (eg Calendar App)
  • Discuss the preliminary steps to get a site created and beyond

Come to the EMS Best Practices Session to learn new tips, tricks and tools! Bring your questions or your class schedule for on the spot assistance. Using PowerPoint to Create Project or Presentation Posters (20 minutes)
