Colonel William B. Ashworth, SCM
Ashworth has more than two decades of experience in military public affairs and communications strategy. He retired from the Air Force at the rank of lieutenant colonel where he served as chief of Air Force media operations at the Pentagon prior to joining The Citadel. Ashworth commanded the 344th Recruiting Squadron in Arlington, Texas, where he led a unit covering a four-state area and spent four years as director of public affairs at the U.S. Air Force Academy. Other career highlights include serving as chief of public affairs for the 509th Bomb Wing during Operations Allied Force and Enduring Freedom, as well as a deployment to Afghanistan where he served as a strategic communication advisor to the Afghan government.
Ashworth is a 1993 distinguished graduate of the Southwest Texas State University Reserve Officer Training Corps program where he earned a degree in journalism. He holds an M.S. in Integrated Strategic Leadership from the Air Force Institute of Technology at Wright-Patterson AFB and an M.B.A. from Webster University, as well as certificates from Squadron Officer School, Air Command and Staff College and Air War College.
His military awards and decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal with oak leaf cluster; Meritorious Service Medal with five oak leaf clusters; Air Force Commendation Medal with oak leaf cluster; Joint Service Achievement Medal, and Air Force Achievement Medal.
Ashworth and his wife, Katy, are the parents of 11-year-old triplets.
