Finalists for communications vice president announced
Three finalists have been named for the position of vice president of external affairs, overseeing internal and external communications at The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina.
The finalists are:
- Jeffrey T. Carter, director of strategic communications and public affairs in the Office of the Under Secretary for National Protection and Programs at the Department of Homeland Security in Washington, D.C. He is currently on active duty in the U.S. Coast Guard.
- L. Jeffrey Perez, executive director of the office of communications and public affairs at Shawnee State University in Portsmouth, Ohio.
- W. Stovall Witte Jr., vice president for advancement and marketing at Charleston Southern University in North Charleston.
The candidates will visit campus starting the week of February 25 for final interviews with senior administrators and Citadel President Lt. Gen. John W. Rosa.
The position, formerly vice president for communications, was previously held by Patricia McArver. McArver came to The Citadel in 1999 as director of integrated marketing. In 2002 she became the first woman named to a senior level administrative position at the college when she was promoted to vice president for communications. McArver resigned in August 2007 to teach in The Citadel School of Business Administration. She is also director of the college’s Oral Communications Lab.
The restructured position of vice president for external affairs will be responsible for strategically communicating the college’s institutional priorities and will oversee the college’s marketing, internal and external communications, media, and public relations functions while working closely with The Citadel Alumni Association, The Citadel Foundation and The Citadel Brigadier Foundation.
